What a Weekend

We had such a great time this weekend. Thanks to the in-laws for the hospitality! This trip made me realize just how much I miss all of the live music that we used to enjoy. In years past, we have always gone to 2-3 music festivals a summer and countless concerts throughout the year. We went to zero festivals last summer and only a few concerts. We have put our lives on hold while waiting on our girl. Well, no more! We'll be doing nothing forever if we continue our current holding pattern.
We went to Tennessee and enjoyed some great flatpickin'. Where better than Tennessee, huh? Friday and Saturday night we heard some incredible musicians at Steve Kaufman's Acoustic Kamp. Among my favorites there were Steve, J.P. Cormier, Dan Crary and homeboy Robin Kessinger. I also dug Dick Daniels on the bass. These fellows blew me away!
We got up bright and early Sunday morning and left for home where we planned to attend a local adoptive family picnic and then on to Mountain Stage. When we arrived back home it was absolutely pouring rain. Not the best weather for a picnic. It rained all day and night. We missed the picnic but Mountain Stage certainly did not disappoint. Tommy Emmanuel OMG!! What an amazing musician, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rhett Miller, The Bob Thompson Unit and yes, BRUCE HORNSBY. Bruce played a long set that certainly did rock. Nothing like one man and a piano. I think Bruce has been to Mountain Stage 6 or 7 times and we have managed to catch all but one show. I'm not sure when this show will air but if you get a chance, check it out on your local public radio station. You'll be glad you did.
